What’s The Risk Of Seeing Your Chiropractor During Covid-19?

The news is saying one thing, your friends are saying another, and you’re still living in pain and afraid to go chiropractor, during Covid-19. The good news is you’re not alone in your fears and doubts. Millions of people across the nation are experiencing a pendulum of emotions when it comes to evaluating what activities are essential and which ones are not.

An activity you may be questioning is if you should visit your chiropractor. The truth is it depends on your situation and your conditions. If you’ve got a crick in your neck, versus requiring a car accident chiropractor, each situation will be different. Here are some things to consider as you assess the risk of visiting your chiropractor during Covid-19.

How Safe Is the Chiropractor? How Safe Are You Being?

The number one way to assess your risk is to see how safe you’re being. The CDC is issuing new alerts every day with updated health guidelines. Following their recommendations will help keep your risk level low. This means washing your hands, wearing a facemask, and practicing social distancing.

Your chiropractor will most likely be doing the same. They want you to feel safe as well as their other patients, so they will be following CDC guidelines as well. In fact, they may go as far as to limit who is allowed in the waiting room. They also will be sure to clean and sanitize after each and every patient, all while wearing masks. Remember, chiropractors and other medical professionals are essential workers who are staying open to serve you. You don’t need to be afraid if you’re doing everything on your part to be safe. Chiropractors are prioritizing safety.

Does Covid-19 Risk Outweigh Benefits of the Chiropractor?

This question will be different, again, depending on the situation of each patient. Some people like to visit the chiropractor ritually to have their spine checked and to make sure there is nothing wrong. Other patients deal with more serious injuries and need to go to the chiropractor to avoid the hospital.

Typically these types of patients are dealing with musculoskeletal conditions that require extensive medical attention by chiropractors. If these people don’t receive treatment, they could end up at the hospital which could be worse than the risk you were taking if you were to visit the chiropractor. By the time you get to the hospital, you have a higher chance of catching the coronavirus and you’re interfering with other patients who may need treatment for the coronavirus.

The same is true for other serious injuries. If you get into a car accident and sustain injuries, you need to be checked out by a chiropractor rather than going to the hospital. If you need treatment for peripheral neuropathy, then find a specialist rather than planning a treatment at the local hospital. The whole point is to avoid the hospital in the middle of a pandemic when possible, but don’t neglect your health needs! If your conditions aren’t life or death, perhaps plan on waiting till cases are down and when your state opens back up.

Consider Your Risk

If you are high risk for the coronavirus (elderly, pregnant, immune-compromised) then perhaps you should stay home. In this scenario, it really is life or death, and needing chiropractic care probably isn’t as important as risking your life. Unless you’re really in pain, it may be best to quarantine for a couple more weeks. Look into a chiropractor that can come to your house. This negates having to be around other people, and ask the traveling chiropractor to take a COVID-19 test before coming inside.

Be Safe and Visit a Special Treatment Center

You have to be careful and safe when going outside, obviously. But don’t let fear stop you from getting treatment for any conditions you have. You have to take care of yourself and see a specialist if your body requires it. They are doing their part to be safe, and you should do yours. By following safety protocol you can get relief and keep yourself safe in the midst of this pandemic.
