Everything You Need To Know Before Getting Nose Filler

If you find yourself looking in the mirror and thinking that your nose isn’t how you want it to be, a nose filler could be the solution. Nose fillers are among the most common cosmetic treatments nowadays, with a high percentage of satisfied patients. Then, The Long Island Rhinoplasty is an excellent solution for individuals who are unhappy or self-conscious about the appearance of their noses.

If you’re considering getting a nose filler, we’ll cover everything you need to know before getting one. We’ll discuss how long nose fillers last, their cost, how they’re done, and the problems they can fix.

What are nose fillers?

A nose filler is also called a dermal filler. It is a solution that is injected at specific points under the skin of your nose, which leads to a change in its shape. This procedure is also called a liquid rhinoplasty.

By injecting a nose filler, which usually consists of hyaluronic acid (a natural constituent of skin), a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon will modify the shape of your nose by adding volume where appropriate.

Nose fillers are relatively cheap compared to surgery. A surgery for modifying the shape of your nose can cost you up to $5000, while nose fillers are available at around $1000.

1. The procedure

Unlike nose surgery, injecting a nose filler is not a complicated procedure. It takes around 15 minutes and you’ll see immediate results.

You will be awake during the procedure and be able to appreciate the change each filler makes. Your doctor may also give you a mirror to hold, allowing you to follow how the procedure proceeds. It’s a good idea to communicate with your doctor after each filler is placed. This will help you achieve the desired results.

If you feel that a filler has been misplaced and does not give you the appearance you want, it is possible to dissolve it and replace it with a new, well-positioned filler.

Just because nose fillers aren’t complicated doesn’t mean you should get them unnecessarily. Here are 3 signs you really need a nose job.

2. Preparing for nose fillers

Getting nose fillers is a relatively simple procedure and does not require extensive preparation. However, in order to decrease the likelihood of bruising or bleeding after the procedure, you may want to stop taking aspirin and ibuprofen a week before your appointment.

Both of these are common drugs used to treat headache and fever. They make your blood thinner and might cause problems with clotting during the procedure.

But before you discontinue any medications, remember to ask your doctor first.

What to do after the procedure?

Once the procedure is done, you can resume your normal, daily tasks the same day.

However, you may be required to gently massage the area for 1-2 weeks. You should also avoid putting pressure on the injected area for one to two weeks after the procedure.

What nose fillers can fix

Nose fillers are effective for the following:

  • Smoothing out bumps, like a dorsal hump
  • Fixing a small nose
  • Lifting the nose (as you age)
  • Asymmetry
  • Reducing nostril size

What nose fillers can’t fix

If you have one of the following, a nose filler isn’t your best option:

  • A severely crooked nose
  • A nose that is broken
  • A wide nose — a nose filler adds volume to the nose, so it will only worsen a wide nose
  • Eyeglasses. Spectacles put pressure on the injection site, which displaces the filler to an abnormal position. So wearing glasses is not recommended for 1-2 weeks after the procedure. If you can’t function at all without glasses, you shouldn’t go for a filler.

If you have any of the above conditions, your doctor will likely advise you to go for surgery.

How long do nose fillers last?

Unfortunately, nose fillers aren’t permanent. Because they are injected under the skin, they eventually get absorbed and need to be replaced.

They can last anywhere between a few months and 2 years. Once a filler is fully absorbed, your nose will look like the way it did before the procedure.

Although you can get a new nose filler to replace the previous one, your doctor may advise against it. That’s because reinjecting another nose filler can damage your skin and its blood vessels.

In this case, you might need to go for nose surgery (also known as surgical rhinoplasty).

Downsides of getting a nose filler

Although it is extremely rare to develop complications after getting a nose filler, possible side effects of the procedure are:

  • Hematoma — blood can leak from nasal blood vessels and collect around the site of injection.
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Redness around the injection site
  • Pain around the injection site
  • Reduced vision. If a nose filler isn’t properly injected, it could enter the blood vessels that supply the eye. This can affect your vision or even lead to blindness. So it’s extremely important to find an experienced doctor who is an expert in nose fillers.

The takeaway

Nose fillers are extremely popular among people looking for cosmetic improvements for their nose. As long as you have an experienced doctor looking after you, getting a nose filler is a simple procedure without any major complications to worry about.

But keep in mind that even though nose fillers have numerous benefits over surgery, they are a temporary solution and you might have to resort to surgery eventually.
