What Are Some Efficient Hormonal Acne Treatments For Adults?

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition mostly occurring during puberty. But acne does affect adults . Acne is the most common skin disease worldwide. There are many natural treatments for hormonal acne. There are many medications also available for hormonal acne treatment for adults.

The number of people who get acne as an adult has gone up over the last two decades especially in females. It has been found that 85% of females and 15% of males have adult acne. Mild adult acne may consist of whiteheads and blackheads or small pustules.

In the moderate form adult acne may also include papules which cover ¼ – ¾ of the face or body. Severe adult acne comes with extreme swelling and redness and irritation. Another condition Rosacea is referred to as adult acne but it is different from classic acne because the bumps are smaller and they appear all at once in cycles.

1. Causes Of Adult Acne

Sometimes the condition runs in families but when this is the case there is usually one or more triggers that bring on the acne.

HormonesExcessive male or female hormones may lead to adult acne because of changes they create in the whole body and the environment of the skin. This lead to an imbalance in pH, inflammation, differences in circulation or excessive production of sebum.

Hormonal fluctuations occur in the aging process and for females during pregnancy, menstruation, breastfeeding, the Postpartum period. Hormonal acne usually appears as deep and cyst like and is often painful or tender.

2. Contact Irritation

Anything that irritates skin may lower the skin’s defences and may cause a protective reaction that leads to inflammation. This includes harsh cleansers or razors used against dry skin.

3. Emotional Stress

Emotional stress causes biological changes in the body that may lead to many other triggers of adult acne. When you are feeling anxious, scared or pressured, your adrenal glands make more of the stress hormone cortisol which may cause an imbalance in the skin.

4. Physical Stress

Physical stress also triggers hormonal changes, inflammation and weakened immunity. It may arise from – lack of sleep, illness, dehydration, extreme weather, exposure to environmental irritants. Research shows that people who have migraines and allergies and the people who smoke are more likely to have adult acne. Air pollution also contributes to the rise in adult acne.

5. Clogged Pores

Excess oil can clog pores and rapid turnover of skin cells leads to backed up hair follicles. The result in both the cases is usually acne.

6. Bacteria

Propionibacterium acnes bacteria causes acne when it is present in the skin, if it manages to build up. Most people don’t get acne because of poor hygiene. The bacteria collects underneath the skin and cannot be reached through surface cleansing.

7. Foods

Many people believe that excessive white flour products, Dairy, sweets and fast food may result in adult acne.

8. Medications

Few medications have been found to trigger adult acne including certain antidepressants, corticosteroids and epilepsy treatment. All the contraceptives may be used to treat adult acne, certain formulations also cause it. Your doctor can advise you to choose the best formula for your needs.

Conclusion

Treatment results vary from person to person, some people try one or two at a time to figure out what will work best. For some OTC remedies work quickly but if you don’t provide the results you really want, a doctor can help you to determine whether a prescription may work better.
