Health Benefits Of Reducing Meat In Your Diet

Reducing meat in your diet has an overall effect on your health. There is some debate as to whether cutting it out altogether is healthy. But recent studies show some of the following is true.

1. Boosting Your Energy

Meat takes more work for your body to break down than vegetables. Whole foods with lots of fiber, like leafy greens and beans, are easy to digest. Recipes like this easy buffalo cauliflower will keep you feeling energetic for longer. For example, you probably already know that when you eat a lot of meat, you feel very tired. People think that drunk driving is the leading cause of death on Christmas Day, but it’s actually falling asleep at the wheel after a big meal.

2. Improved Long Term Health

People who eat a lot of meat are more likely to get cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. It also seems that the type of protein you eat has a lot to do with how likely you are to have a stroke. For example, eating red meat can make you more likely to have a stroke. While eating fish, soy, and beans can make you less likely to get serious diseases and brain dementias like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Also, it can help lower blood pressure, inflammation, and stress.

3. Reducing Meat in Your Diet Helps Combat Diabetes

Many countries are seeing a rise in the number of people with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is very common in both the UK and the US. This can cause a lot of health problems, like losing a limb or an organ. Cutting back on meat may also make it less likely that you’ll get Type 2 diabetes. Some studies have also shown that choosing to eat less meat may be one of the most important things you can do to manage or even reverse Type 2 diabetes if you get it.

4. Losing Weight

Some foods, especially meats, cause people to gain weight more quickly. There’s no question that eating whole foods instead of processed meats will help you lose weight. Compared to diets with a lot of animal products, plant-based diets have a lot fewer calories and almost no saturated fat. Even if you only eat vegetarian food sometimes, you might have to prepare meals. And because of that, you will eat less fast food that is high in fat, excess sugars, and salt.

5. Improved Heart Health

Red meat like steak and lamb is tasty. But eating meat, especially red meat, has been linked to a higher chance of getting heart disease. A recent study found that eating a small amount more processed meat increased the chance of getting heart disease by almost 20%. And even a small increase in the amount of unprocessed, fresh, and good-quality meat ate made the risk of coronary heart disease go up as well. Making a case for reducing your meat consumption.

Summary

There are some proven health benefits to reducing meat in your diet. Some of these include helping with energy levels, combating diabetes, and better cardiovascular health.
