5 Hacks You Need To Know For Moving Across Town

Moving can often be a strenuous and boring process, especially when you have to pack up all your stuff only to move a few minutes away.

Though seemingly simpler than moving across countries, moving across towns can often end up just as challenging, where the time-consuming process never seems to fit into the schedule of an average 9 to 5 blue-collar worker.

But what if I told you it doesn’t have to be that way? That with the 5 simple hacks we have complied for you today moving across towns can become a worry of the past!

1. Getting a Head Start

To start off, one of the biggest mistakes beginner movers make is leaving packing for the last couple of days. Though it may seem troublesome at first to be ahead of things, starting the minute you get keys to your new home can save a lot of time especially when you don’t have a lot of it to spare to begin with.

Starting with smaller objects like books and clothes, and then moving onto beds and TVs, day by day it becomes easier to move. Never again would you have to worry about the deadlines set by your landlords to move out! Not to mention the lingering anxiety of leaving something behind; being ready beforehand allows you plenty of time to double-check.

2. Saving Money

A move can be expensive, with the ongoing pandemic and markets plummeting, moving companies are becoming increasingly costly, but that doesn’t mean you’re alone in this change. Asking friends to help you move can go a long way, from saving time in traveling to saving costs on moving companies, for who really needs a moving company when you have a good friend with a truck?

You have no idea how much trouble dividing the load over multiple cars can save, not only is there a smaller chance of your stuff getting damaged but it’s simply much quicker and cheaper than potentially multiple trips.

Likewise, it’s always best to look for alternatives to spending your own money, where oftentimes even the little you spend on packaging can be saved by using old boxes near your local recycling pick-up point instead.

3. Be Organized

Though it may sound boring at first, there’s a lot of upsides to organizing your travels. Color coordinating your boxes with simple post-it notes to suit your travels can help make sure nothing’s lost in the process. For example, placing a blue post-it on boxes you wish to donate or a red on cutlery and kitchen items allows you to look back for objects you may be missing.

Similarly, when it comes to packing it’s always smart to leave large objects in smaller boxes and fragile ones wrapped in cloth or bubble wrap.

4. Stay Hydrated!

Moving days can tend to be extremely stressful, and oftentimes managing and ensuring everything is going smoothly can lead to you forgetting to take care of yourself in the process. Keeping a cooler ready for the day with a couple of snacks for the ride can help ensure that you aren’t starved by the move. If possible, saving some food and water for your friends too wouldn’t harm anyone because a happy and well-fed workforce tends to be a productive one too.

5. Have Fun

People often overlook that moving can be a fun process, but only if we make it one. Who says we have to be so serious? While with friends, take the advantage of enjoying yourself. Not only would this boost morale, but you tend to lose track of how draining moving can be when you’re enjoying yourself.
