Guide: How To Stay Sane On A Long Flight

While travelling to different countries around the world is certainly exciting, a long and often boring flight is inevitable for getting you there. Flying is certainly the fastest way to reach any destination, but long-haul flights can take a toll on you. With the dry air, being crammed into a space with hundreds of strangers, and a lack of things to do, staying sane on a long flight isn’t always easy and it’s not unusual for people to be desperate to land just a few hours in.

If you have a long flight coming up, arming yourself with plenty of things to keep you going throughout the journey will help. Here are some of the best ways to pass the time when flying long-haul.

1. Wear Comfortable Clothes:

First of all, don’t worry so much about how you look on the flight – comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is a must to stay comfortable and avoid feeling irritated while flying. Leggings, tracksuit bottoms, or a loose-fitting dress or skirt are all great ideas and if you must look great when you disembark, choose clothing that looks good but allows complete freedom of movement too. Loungewear is a great option and there are plenty of styles to choose from since COVID19 caused a loungewear revolution.

2. Stay Hydrated:

The dry air on a plane can leave you feeling dehydrated and uncomfortable. From drying out your skin to giving you a dry mouth, it can lead to several things you’ll want to avoid when you’re travelling to a new destination. Keep on top of this by taking a small travel-sized moisturiser along with you so that you can easily keep your skin hydrated, and ask for water when the refreshments trolley arrives. Drinking alcohol is best avoided as it can dehydrate you even further.

3. Download Smartphone Games:

Your smartphone might be the main way you get entertainment on a long flight, so be sure to keep it safe, make sure that it is fully charged, and download plenty of games that you can play offline just in case you don’t get a great Wi-Fi connection on the flight or the Wi-Fi is too expensive to justify paying for. Many long-haul flights do provide USB hubs and charging stations for your electronics, but you might want to bring a portable power bank or charging case for your phone just to be safe.

4. Read on a Kindle:

A long-haul flight can be an excellent chance to catch up on the latest book titles that you haven’t had time to read yet. A Kindle is a great investment to make for travelling since you can use it to read a huge number of books offline. Just download all the titles that you want to read to your library before you take off so that you can access them regardless of whether or not you get Wi-Fi on the plane.

No matter where you’re flying to, a long-haul flight can leave you bored, restless, and uncomfortable. Keep these tips in mind to stay sane and enjoy a more comfortable journey.
