3 Ideas For Corporate Team-Building Activities That Engage Employees

Corporate team-building activities are fun! OK, that statement is an oxymoron for some of us. But they really can be a barrel of laughs and valuable to your company, if you get it right.

It’s all about choosing activities that aren’t overcomplicated and bring out the fun and talkative side in staff members.

And there’s no better time than now when many are returning to the office. After all, there will be nervous employees returning to work, and team building will help bring their confidence back.

So let’s delve into three proven and fun team-building activities that will help your corporate team re-adjust and reconnect.

1. Office Trivia

Sometimes it’s best to stick with tried-and-tested classics like a good old game of Office Trivia. Whether it’s for in the office or part of your team-building activities for corporate events, you’ll get everyone’s competitive streak engaged.

The best time to use this game is probably as an opener for your activities. Quite simply, section everyone off into teams. Try to make them small enough for people to chat with each other, but large enough to socialize and get to know each other better.

A reasonable timeframe is 30 minutes to an hour, and you can add buzzers into the equation if you want to make a real effort. Lastly, it’s your choice if you’re going to make the questions work-related or not.

When all the questions are asked, make the teams swap their answers. Then run through the answers for everyone to grade.

2. Truth or Lies

After a good game of Office Trivia to break the ice, the next phase could be Truth or lies to carry on the momentum you’ve created. This can be a short game that lasts around 30 minutes, and it helps people open up more in a way that can be super-funny.

Either keep the same teams if you want them to bond even more or mix everyone up.

Explain that each person has to say two truths and one lie. Sit the team in a circle, and then when someone has to speak, they stand up in the middle. Then you have the option of people just guessing. Or, everyone can keep a record whether they guess right or wrong, to make it competitive.

Try to emphasize that the stories can be as funny and ludicrous as possible. There’s sure to be some real office comedians that will shine out in this activity.

3. Word Pairs

Lastly, we have Word Pairs, a game that makes people interact with each other one-on-one.

If you’ve carried out the first two activities we’ve looked at, then this is perfect for the finale. Everyone will feel more comfortable now approaching each other.

You need to write on two white stickers, some odd pairs. A good example is you write “salt” on the first sticker and “pepper” on the other.

Further examples include:

  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Bride and Groom
  • Supply and Demand
  • Wine and cheese
  • Law and order

There’s plenty of other word pairs you can choose from.

Now put a sticker on everyone’s back without them seeing the word, and tell them all to mingle. Next, everyone has to chat with each other to figure out what they are by asking others questions. However, other people can only give yes or no answers.

Eventually, everyone should find their pair.

Reconnect With Corporate Team-Building Activities

When team-building exercises get too complicated and too challenging, employees will switch off and lose interest.

Corporate team-building activities need to be fun, maintain good energy levels, and ultimately help employees reconnect and re-adjust. It doesn’t hurt, though, to add elements of competition into the mix to spice things up.
