Business trip opportunities come up all the time. People may contact you with propositions, and certain trade shows or conferences might be held in various countries. No matter what takes you on a business trip, you should consider whether or not it’s wise to visit the intended country.
Plenty of countries are safe and carry zero security risks. The ones below are usually in the “high-risk” bracket, so maybe you should think twice before agreeing to a business trip in any of these places:
1. Kenya
Kenya is one of Africa’s biggest business hubs, which makes it a popular spot for events, conferences, and international investments. Nairobi is an especially popular business trip destination, though the country itself presents some fairly big security risks.
It’s located near Somalia, which is one of the most dangerous countries in the world and is rife with militant terrorist groups. As a result, the risk of terrorist attacks is higher than usual throughout Kenya, and that’s not mentioning the general crime rate, which is pretty bad.
This is definitely one of those countries where you might receive an invite to a business event, but need to think twice about going. It’s definitely not wise to travel there without executive protection services in Kenya, so if you do go, be sure you’ve got a proper security plan in place.
2. Mexico
Nestled within Central America, Mexico has always been a big business destination, largely thanks to its wealth of manufacturing facilities. Moreover, being so close to the USA means that a lot of North American businesses will arrange trips and conventions in Mexico to enjoy a sunnier climate and more entertainment!
Despite being a popular tourist and business destination, Mexico still has security concerns revolving around cartel activity. It’s one of those places where you can end up in trouble if you take a wrong turn or stay in the wrong place. Experts suggest that you should book hotels in the busy tourist or business districts rather than booking ones on the outskirts of towns to stay safe.
3. Nigeria
Nigeria is another African country that attracts a lot of business investment and sees plenty of business travel. Primarily, it’s a destination for energy companies – though Nigeria’s tech and fintech sectors are also growing at an extraordinary rate.

While you may see business trip opportunities here, it’s also a country ravaged by terrorist threats and general crime. Kidnapping for ransom is frighteningly common in certain parts of Nigeria, and the risks of this happening increase when you’re traveling for business. It’s another place where you definitely need a dedicated security detail the entire time.
Should you completely avoid these countries when planning business trips? To be honest…yes. Unless it’s an absolutely essential trip that you can’t afford to miss, then it’s simply too risky to travel to these places because of the safety threats surrounding them. See if you can arrange a trip elsewhere, and if you absolutely must go ahead with it, then employ dedicated security services to look after you and your entourage.
