How To Develop The Best Health Routine For Your Lifestyle

Over one-third of American adults are obese which shows we must find ways to pursue a healthier lifestyle.

Developing a healthy routine helps your body fight diseases, improves your quality of life, and makes you more productive. Perhaps you’re hoping to change your daily routine but you’re not sure where to start.

Sounds familiar?

Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s everything you need to know.

1. Wake up Early

When building a health routine, make sure you wake up early. You don’t have to wake up at 5 AM, but rise at the same time every day so your body learns to regulate your sleep pattern.

It also gives you time to slowly wake up, appreciate the morning, and sneak in exercise before heading to work.

2. Drink a Glass of Water First Thing

One of the top healthy habits is to drink a glass of water once you wake up. Staying hydrated is crucial as it prevents fatigue, headaches, and sugar cravings.

Many of us go straight for coffee, but the morning is when our body produces cortisol, an energy-regulating hormone. This can counteract the stimulating properties of coffee.

If water is too boring, add a slice of lemon, as it soothes your digestive system and hydrates your lymph nodes.

3. Exercise in the Morning

Don’t know what to include in a healthy routine?

Start by dedicating 30 minutes of your morning to exercise, whether it’s bending your body into a downward dog or going for a jog. Not only does this keep you fit, but regular exercise does wonder for your mental health.

It’s a win-win!

4. Enjoy a Nutritious Breakfast

Aside from setting a supplement schedule, you should also load up on a healthy breakfast every morning. But instead of buying smoothies, make your own by blending walnuts, your favorite fruit, and two cups of water.

Another great way to sneak in vegetables is by whipping up scrambled eggs with spinach or kale. Add these to your diet as they’re packed with vitamins and minerals that help fight disease.

You should also follow a supplement routine and learn about nutritionals to ensure that you get all the nutrients you need.

5. Have a Regular Coffee

A cup of joe is the key to jumpstarting your morning, but make sure it’s a regular one. Lattes, cappuccinos, and other milky variants are often packed with extra sugar and empty calories, which are unhealthy.

Instead, grab a black Americano, or if that’s too strong, add a splash of cream.

6. Spend Time Outdoors

When you’re developing healthy routines, make sure you spend time outdoors, even if it’s for 20 minutes a day. Go for a stroll around your local park where you can breathe in the fresh air, soak up the sun, and immerse yourself in nature.

Plus, it exposes your body to vitamin D, which wards of diseases and elevates your mood.

7. Cook Meals at Home

The average American eats around four commercially prepared meals every week. Not only is this costly, but you’re likely consuming more sugar and fats compared to home-cooked dishes.

Cooking teaches you to appreciate your food and bring mindfulness to your eating habits. You can also add herbs or spices to your favorite dishes as they add flavor and boost your health.

Further, swap out sugary snacks for healthier ones. For instance, enjoy plain yogurt, a piece of fruit, and unsalted nuts for a boost of energy.

8. Cut Down on Sugary Drinks

Soda is loaded with sugar which wreaks havoc on your body, so it’s important to control the amount you drink.

But, avoid switching to diet versions, as they contain artificial sweeteners that trick your body into thinking it’s consuming real sugar. As a result, you burn fewer calories and crave more sweet treats.

If you want to cut down your soda consumption, drink water flavored with fresh fruit or mint. You could also sip unsweetened milk or coconut water to quench your thirst.

9. Limit Your Screen Time

Many of us constantly stare at a screen, whether it’s behind a computer, at work, or on our phones.

So instead of binging Netflix over the weekend, pick up a new hobby. Try tackling a sudoku puzzle, knitting a scarf, or painting with watercolors. You should also set a screen time limit which many phones have built-in.

Further, to avoid temptation, delete games or time-consuming apps from your phone. Or, if that’s too drastic, turn off notifications on social media so you’re not constantly checking them.

To ensure you get a good night’s sleep, read a novel or soak in the bath to fully unwind.

10. Practice Gratitude

It’s important to focus on the positive aspects of our lives rather than things that aren’t going so well.

To help you out, write a list of everything that you’re positive about, whether it’s having a steady income or spending time with family. Over time, this will train you to be more optimistic, which will improve your overall well-being.

11. Get Enough Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep will help you wake up feeling energized and in a good mood. Sleeping is crucial as it boosts your immunity, repairs muscles, and keeps your mind clear.

So, make sure you get at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every night to stay healthy.
