4 Rules For Accessorizing Your Wedding Dress

Almost every little girl dreams about her wedding day. Whom will she marry? Where will the wedding be? And, of course, how will her wedding dress look like?

Fast forward a couple of decades and the dream has become a reality. You have said ‘Yes’ to the love of your life, the gorgeous ring shines on your finger and it is time to choose the perfect wedding dress. Oh, so many options to choose from – mermaid, ball gown, A-line, trumpet, and a little less formal but equally beautiful tea-length dress.

Of course, in order to find the perfect one, you should focus on the cut that fits your body type and accentuates your best features. Now, just as there are rules for picking the right dress, there are rules for accessorizing it.

Whether your gown will be flashy and embellished or completely simple, here are a couple of tips that will help you choose the best accessories

1. With or without the veil

Of course, wedding gowns and veils go hand in hand, but there is no rule that says you have to wear one! Although they say that your dress should depict your personal style, we believe that nothing says more about you and your personality than a head accessory. If you want to be a traditional bride, then a veil will perfect for you.

However, be sure that its color matches the exact shade of your dress. Otherwise, the whole ensemble will just look sloppy rather than fabulous. In addition, opt for a sheer veil if your wedding dress has a lot of details, but feel free to go with a layered one if your dress is simple.

If you are petite, a long, floor-length veil will help you look taller, while taller brides will look gorgeous with an elbow-length veil. However, if you are planning a bohemian wedding, flowers in your hair will add to the soft and romantic, earthy feel of your special day.

In case you still wish to be a glamorous bride but you just don’t see yourself wearing a veil, a gemstone hairpiece will suit you perfectly.

2. Match your jewelry to the color of your dress

You might think that a plain gold or silver necklace goes with everything, but the truth is that certain metals look way better when combined with different shades of white and ivory. In fact, if you have picked an ivory dress, gold accessories will highlight this hue.

On the other hand, silver ones will complement a bright white dress. Regardless of whether you go for silver, rose or yellow gold, make sure your necklace, bracelet, and earrings have the same metal base.

3. Stay comfortable

Nothing can ruin your day more than blisters on your feet caused by uncomfortable shoes. Keep in mind that your special day will involve a lot of dancing and walking around, so your aching feet should be the least of your worries.

Also, high stilettos could really ruin your first dance. Therefore, find a pair of cute shoes that fit you perfectly, or even go with some fabulous sandals or wedges.

Obviously, you can always wear a pair of fabulous heels during the reception and then change into something comfier afterward. For a pop of color, choose a pair of shoes that could be something blue.

4. Cover-up

In case you are getting married during the fall or winter, or in a drafty church, you should consider getting yourself a cover-up. When it comes to this type of accessory, you can choose from boleros and capes to stoles and wraps.

Try sporting a chic kimono bridal robe to keep yourself a little warm. Not only does it cover you up, but it adds a little flair too. There are tons of prints and styles to choose from, so don’t be afraid of running out of options! Whether you’re a traditional gal or an adventurous fashionista, there’s a robe out there that suits your taste.

A simple gown can be easily embellished with a cape with beading on it, while an already ornate dress will be perfectly complemented with a chiffon shawl. The trick is to find the balance, so your pieces do not compete for the attention, but rather work amazingly together.

We hope that these guidelines will help you look breathtaking on your big day, just as you should.
