What To Know About CBD Skincare Products

What To Know About CBD Skincare Products

If you are an avid fan of the health and wellness category, then you may have heard of CBD. It has become so popular in recent years that you find it in pretty much everything: food, candles, clothing, and more popularly, skincare. CBD has taken over the cosmetics and skincare industry by storm, prompting several brands and influencers to promote the use of CBD products.

As a skincare enthusiast, CBD is most likely not a new word to you anymore. While browsing for products, you may have seen a CBD-infused mascara or CBD face cream that got you intrigued and wondering. The golden question, however, remains to be: What does it do? Naturally, you want to make sure you put safe products in your skin,

1. What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol; a non-psychoactive compound extracted from the cannabis sativa plant. It is typically derived from the hemp plant and is commonly distinguished from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that gives the “high” sensation in marijuana. CBD gained popularity for having healing benefits, such as anti-inflammatory properties, relief for joint pain, and chronic pain. Many studies show strong evidence of CBD’s health benefits, though there are so many more promising areas that can be studied.

2. CBD in Skincare

Given the properties of CBD, skincare brands and aestheticians have looked into how the ingredient can help with skin concerns such as dryness, inflammation, acne, and the like. More recent evidence has also shown that CBD can treat concerns like eczema and psoriasis, which explains the emergence of a CBD face cream, moisturizer, or lotion. The ingredient is also becoming popular in rubs and balms because it helps reduce swelling without the need for pain pills.

Fortunately, CBD is known to be safe as a topical and can be used in a range of products. Many experts say that if you experience side effects with topical CBD products, it is likely that another ingredient and not the CBD causes the reaction.

Some studies have also shown how CBD can treat acne since the ingredient can reduce the production of sebum and regulate overall oil production. This finding shows huge potential for skincare since CBD is non-steroidal, and acne is currently treated with a retinoid. This steroidal ingredient may sometimes have negative side effects on your skin.

3. Types of CBD Oil in Skincare

CBD-infused skincare products are typically made with full-spectrum CBD oil, CBD isolate, or broad-spectrum CBD oil. Full-spectrum CBD oil contains the entire plant and all the plant compounds, such as cannabinol and flavonoids, that work together to create what they call the entourage effect. When extracted from hemp, this type of CBD typically contains less than 3% THC.

Broad-spectrum CBD oil, on the other hand, also contains all the plant compounds but does not have any trace of THC since it is removed after extraction. Finally, CBD isolate, as its name suggests, is pure CBD without the other compounds. Some brands prefer using this form since they believe it can help deliver the most effective ingredient, and some users also prefer it since it makes them feel more secure knowing that the oil is not mixed with other compounds.

As with other products, however, it will be best to research before you purchase anything to ensure that you choose the ones that will help with your skin’s needs.
