1. Billings Farm and Museum

A highlight of any family getaway with small children to Killington is to head over to the Billings Farm and Museum at some point during your stay. Only a short drive to Woodstock, this inspiring museum is the perfect combination of interactive fun and comprehensive learning and is located at 69 Old River Road. The Billings Farm and Museum is an open-air experience where guests can enjoy learning about how this area functions as a fully-operation dairy farm while enjoying time browsing the museum, farmhouse and gift shop. Kids love Billings Farm and Museum for the opportunities to see farm equipment, ask questions and of course, make the most of petting the many animals on site. During the summer the museum is open from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm with winter hours adjusted to weekends from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. This location is also loved for its annually hosted film series which is a fun option when you’re traveling with older kids. 

2. Gondola Rides 

Killington is a popular winter destination for families that love to ski, snowboard, and tube until their hearts are content. The many resorts and slopes in the area provide the perfect landscape for downhill thrills and ample options for organizing lessons for little ones who are on skis for the very first time. However, there’s something spectacular about a view from above as well. Take in all the sights the mountain has to offer by enjoying a scenic gondola ride or perhaps even two at Killington Mountain. As a budget-friendly bonus, children 6 years of age and under ride the gondola for free and all that’s needed to hop on is a complimentary pass that can be picked up from the ticket window. Enjoy sweeping and panoramic views from above as you glide over the ground at thrilling heights. This is an excursion that you’ll definitely want to have your camera for. The gondola is open during the winter weekends from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm with adjusted hours during mid-week from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.

3. Montshire Museum of Science

Nearby Norwich is home to the Montshire Museum of Science, where children and families can explore, discover and unearth some of the world’s mysteries all within a single afternoon. Located at 1 Montshire Road, this science center and museum house over 150 exhibits designed to stimulate curiosity through experiments and tactical exercises. Kids are encouraged to enjoy a hands-on experience as they learn about everything from weather and electricity to space and how sound works. The Montshire Museum of Science also includes an indoor play space if kids are feeling the need to simply burn off a bit of excess energy. Sitting on over 100 acres of land, this museum is open to the public every day of the week between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. Admission for adults is $16 while children can enjoy all the fun for $13 at the door.

For a delicious and sugary experience quite unlike any other, head over to Maple Sugar and Vermont Spice at Route 4 in Mendon. This fully functioning sugar house is known and loved for its incredible breakfast and lunch options that include everything from over-sized pancakes to stuffed French toast. Once everyone has cleaned their plate, take time to browse the gift shop or sample some maple syrup candies created right on-site. If you happen to drop by in the spring, there’s a good chance you’ll get a glimpse of the maple syrup production process too. 

5. Green Mountain Rock Climbing

When your little ones have an innate sense of adventure and you’re looking for a place that provides thrills and guidance all in one, the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center is the place to be. Located in Rutland, it doesn’t take long to harness up and enjoy testing out your skills on the indoor walls. Green Mountain Rock Climbing also hosts summer camps for kids if your travel plans have you in Killington for an extended period of time. When you’re looking to take your skills outdoors, options to book a guided climbing adventure are readily available upon request.
