What Are Some Effective Home Treatments For De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

With the advancement of technology, the work requirements have all changed which demand most of the people to work for approximately eight to ten hours on their computers or laptops while sitting in the same position which is one of the reasons for De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis.

So this overall restricts the body movements but leads to the excess movement of hand and wrist for the use of a keyboard and computer mouse. Like we all know ‘the excess of everything is bad’, so here it is in this case also.

Further, it’s not only limited to the working environment only but the situation is the same in playing and fun activities also. People these days have lowered the outdoor playing activities rather they are choosing the indoor fun like playing video games which again restricts the overall body movements and putting the excess burden on hand and wrist movement especially on the thumb.

All these habits are leading to some serious medical problems and one such problem is known as De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis is basically an inflammatory medical condition where the tendon sheath of your wrist is being affected due to the repetitive hand and wrist movements and this inflammation causes severe pain in the thumb side of your wrist.

The basic purpose of De Quervain’s Treatment is to reduce the inflammation from the tendons sheath and so as the pain. So you have to start the treatment early so that it simply can be cured at your home without any medication or surgery. Here I am going to give you some home remedies for the treatment of De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis which you must need to follow if you are stuck with this same medical condition:

1. Reduce Overall Body Weight:

When our body muscles tear due to the over movements then they tend to repair themselves within the period of twenty-four hours to forty-eight hours. But when your body is overweight then your De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis pain could lead to chronic inflammation because an overweight body restricts the proper blood circulation and without proper blood circulation, your muscles would not be able to repair themselves.

So, if you have an overweight body then you definitely need to lose weight to avoid the medicinal and surgical treatments for your De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis problem.

2. Hydration Therapy:

Losing bodyweight sounds good but it is going to be not that easy. But you still have to improve your blood circulation. For this, you need to keep yourself hydrated for the whole day.

Intake healthy liquids drinks as much as you can. Start drinking more water at regular intervals in your working day. When your body is hydrated then it eventually improves the blood circulation in your body which ultimately allows your body muscle to repair itself.

3. Resting Mode:

Resting is the best De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis home remedy. Sometimes all your muscles need a rest for self-repairing mode. So you need to reduce all your basic hand and wrist movements and completely avoid the heavy movements as much as you can.

When you rest your hand, the tendon sheath will start repairing itself within twenty-four hours. Further, you can also use a splint for properly resting your hand while you are sleeping.

4. Ice Pack Remedy:

Ice pack remedy is considered as one of the most effective remedies for any type of inflammation, especially for De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis. This remedy helps in reducing the tendon sheath swelling and so as your pain. You can simply use the homemade ice pack for your remedy.

Here you will be required one piece of cloth and a few ice cubes from your refrigerator. Now you need to put these ice cubes in that cloth and then put this cold cloth carrying ice cubes over your painful wrist area. Keep putting this cloth for a few seconds then remove it. Follow this on-off remedy for at least 15 minutes at one time and you need to repeat the Ice Pack home remedy at least four times a day.

5. Home Exercises:

Exercising is a crucial part of treating De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis with home remedies. For this, you can follow a few stretching exercises at your home which are given below:

Thumb Exercise

  • Firstly you can start with thumb lifts. For this, you can place your hand on a plain surface and then start moving your thumb from the surface towards your palm. Keep doing this repetition at least twenty to thirty times least.
  • Then you can perform the opposition stretching. Here place your hand again on a plain surface and start moving your thumb and little finger together towards each other’s direction. Keep repeating this opposition stretching again for twenty to thirty times.
  • Further, you can use a softball for overall hand stretching. Here you need to grip the ball tightly by using all your fingers then lose your grip after a few seconds. Repeat this on-off set of stretching exercises at least twenty times. You can even follow this exercise while working in your office.

Conclusion:

As per the above-discussed remedies, you can treat your De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis pain at your home. Here one thing which you mainly need to avoid is the repetitive movements whenever you start feeling this kind of a pain in your thumb side of your wrist area. Then you can follow the above given De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis home remedies for avoiding the medicinal and further surgical treatments.
