This makes for a wide variety of activities, sights, and historical features to see in this unique suburb. If you’re looking for things to do and places to go in Greenwich, this article can help.

1. Greenwich Avenue Historic District

If you love history, this is one of the best places to visit or relocate to. The Greenwich Avenue Historic District is home to many buildings, monuments, and sights that tell a story about their past.

When visiting Greenwich Avenue, be sure to see the city town hall, constructed in 1905. You’ll find this at 101 Field Point Road directly across from Havemeyer Field. Built-in 1925, the Havemeyer Building was used as the town’s second high-school.

These beautiful monuments will provide you with unique insight into what life looked like in Connecticut over 100 years ago. You’ll also enjoy the large variety of shops and stores on the avenue. Located in beautiful Downtown Greenwich, this district is also a convenient 50-minute train ride to New York City.

2. Montgomery Pinetum Park

Located on Bible Street near Cos Cob, Montgomery Pinetum Park is a must-see. With walking trails and a sparkling lake, this is the perfect place to experience Connecticut’s brisk air and beautiful views.

Here you’ll find the Montgomery Pinetum Loops, a 1.9-mile walking trail with unique stone monuments. You’ll also have an opportunity to see interesting wildlife like cottontail rabbits, deer, chipmunks, and more.

We recommend visiting Montgomery Pinetum Park and walking the trails between the months of April and October. This time of the year makes for comfortable weather and clear skies.

3. Great Captain’s Island

This 17.2-acre island escape is nestled off of the Greenwich coast. Adored by locals and visitors alike, Great Captain’s Island is a hotspot for Greenwich tourism each year. Nearby you’ll find two smaller islands by the names of Little Captain Island and Wee Island.

One of the most interesting aspects of this beautiful destination is that it is a remnant of a glacial moraine. These are accumulations of dirt and rocks moved along by a large glacier.

You’ll also see one of Greenwich’s most treasured gems, the Great Captain Island Light. This 19th-century lighthouse was relit in 2009 and is often seen near and far. To pay a visit to this relaxing, historic island, catch the ferry service from Greenwich between June and September.
